Interpretation and facts and Statistics About the book and how it connects to our mission
The Hot Zone written by Richard Preston explains the Ebola virus origin. While explaining the virus he mentions several other viruses involved in the Ebola's' discovery. He explained what the virus does and other facts pertaining to the virus, which we also mentioned on our website. In the book he explains many gruesome details on how the Ebola virus works its way through the body, "it attacks with particular ferocity the internal organs, connective tissue, intestines, and skin.... Hemorrhage occurred from all orifices of the body.... His face is expressionless. His chest, arms, and face are speckled with blotches and bruises, and droplets of blood stand on his nipples"(38). In our research about the viruses, we have included details about what they do and how they spread from victim to victim. At large the communities affected by the virus had many reasons as to why they got infected. From using dirty needles, to give hundreds of patients' different vaccines a day, and from not taking the proper sanitary protocols to deal with the virus or any sicknesses in general. The last sentence in the book claims, "It will be back" (411). It will show up again, but do viruses truly disappear? They just slow down until they find a victim to claim and kill, and then jump to another host that suits its needs. The cycle will keep on continuing. In this website our mission is educating people on the different viruses and what it does, so that when the time comes, people will have more information on how to protect themselves and fight it off.
